Questions on assisted collections

Processing of assisted collection requests is now on schedule. All those on the scheme previously should have continuation of service, however customers new to the service will not receive confirmation of their status. If residents who believe they are on the scheme have waste/ recycling that is not collected then they should call the Torbay Council’s Customer First call centre and state they are on the assisted collection schedule.

If you have applied for an assisted collection and either received a response stating that you are not entitled and/or do not meet the criteria then you will need to use the recycling and waste system as described in your leaflet. If you feel you will struggle with this, you could ask a neighbour to help you. If you have not applied for an assisted collection, but feel you would qualify then please put in an application. Please call Torbay Council’s Customer First Call Centre to discuss this.

No, even if you have been accepted for an assisted collection, collection crews can’t enter the building to make an assisted collection. If you have not been accepted for an assisted collection then you will need to place your recycling and residual waste in the standard collection point.

If through age, illness or infirmity you are unable to move your bins on collection day, the Council will arrange for the recycling and waste collectors to come onto your property to collect your bin from your chosen storage area, empty it and then return it to your storage point. Please note that the Collect and Return service can only be provided to you if there is no other person living in your house who can move the bin/boxes for you. In certain cases the Council may require evidence of the need for the service. If you feel you require this service, please call 01803 207900 for details.

All residents who previously got an assisted lift service for their bins will continue to receive this service under the new recycling and waste collection system.

There are currently around 7,000 households in Torbay who are registered for “assisted lift” and we are processing enquiries from an additional 3,000 households.
