What will happen to my food waste?
All food waste will be collected separately and is anaerobically digested (this means it is broken down without the presence of oxygen), in a sealed system. The process uses naturally occurring micro-organisms to break down the organic matter into fertiliser. The biofertiliser is used on farm land to grow crops and compost is also produced.
Where do the items I put out to recycle go and what is it made into?
This information will be readily available for all residents with full yearly details, facts and figures provided in annual reports on this website which will include full details of:
• the amount presented for and sent for recycling (by material type)
• where it was re-processed
• what it was re-processed into
• the recycling rates achieved
• the carbon benefits achieved as a result
